Being a teen is TOUGH! At times flooded with hormones, your brain is wiring all kinds of new pathways and your relationship with your parents can become really challenging, not to mention dynamics with peers. Counselling can help navigate this exciting yet at times painful time in your life. I get it, I was there. As a teen I needed support and often found that the counsellors I went to didn’t “get it”, talked to me like I was still a child, or I felt I had to censor myself in my appointments; this defeats the purpose. I strive to create an environment where you can show up and talk about anything that is going on in your world, and together we can find solutions that fit for you and your unique challenges and strengths. I have over a decade of experience working exclusively with youth and this is an area of work I am incredibly passionate about.
Some possible topics that youth bring to session are:
- Sexuality and/or sexual identity
- Gender exploration
- Screen addiction/navigating social media
- Mental Health concerns
- Alcohol/substance use/dependency
- Self-harm or suicidal thoughts and feelings
- Dating and relationships
- Peer pressure
- Conflict with parents
- Anxiety and panic attacks
- Managing stress from school, parents, work
If these or any other issues are bothering you, I would be happy to support you.
